How many people do you encounter during the course of your day? Out of those, how many do you know by their first name? Out of those, how much do you know about their personal life? Where did they grow up? Where do they work? How long have they worked there? Are they married? Do they have children? What are their hobbies? What’s their story?
I’ve found that one of the keys to building solid relationships with people, is to build rapport with them. A great way to do this, is by asking them questions. As they answer these questions, you will eventually find common ground. That’s when the magic starts to happen.
Think of the one person who you would consider to be your best friend. How did you meet? What was it that attracted you to them? You probably discovered some common ground and the relationship blossomed from there.
I believe that God orchestrates many of the people who cross our paths on a daily basis. We could very easily pass them by without taking notice, or we could stop and introduce ourselves and possibly become best friends with them.
Being in outside sales, I’ve made it a goal to get to know every person , in every one of my accounts on a first name basis. Not only that, but I want to know about their personal lives as well. Learning their name is the first step, to building the relationship!
They say, that people love to hear their name. The power of the relationship, starts with knowing their name. Our walk with God, is the same way. There is so much power when we use his name.
I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, and he will grant your request because you use my name. You haven’t done this before. Ask using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy. -John 16:23-24
As we get to know him, the relationship starts to form. The more we learn about him, the more we desire to be like him! Eventually, we become best friends and want to spend more time with him.
