The Greatest Commandment

In the book of Matthew 25:35-40

Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?

Jesus replied, ” ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’  This is the first and greatest commandment.  A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

The first commandment is easy for me to grasp.   However, the second one is harder to understand.   What does it mean to “Love your neighbor as yourself?”

Let’s go back to the word, to find the answers.

“Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord. -Leviticus 19:18

Love Fulfills the Law

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.  The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command:  “Love your neighbor as yourself.”  Love does no harm to a neighbor.  Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.-Romans 13:8-10

Now, I have a question for each of you that are reading this post.  When it says “Love your neighbor as yourself,” what does that look like for you?  In other words, how do you want people to love you? (please leave your comments below)

I believe the answers to this question, will give us all a better understanding of what people are looking for when it comes to love.
