I have always been drawn to green pastures and still waters. I spent a lot of time fly fishing the rivers of Colorado before we left. It was during these times that I heard so clearly from the Lord. There’s something about these places that draw me in. Usually, when I think of these types of places, my mind immediately goes to a place of seclusion, calmness, tranquility and peace.
It’s during these moments, that God speaks to me. God desires a relationship with each one of us. Much like the relationship that we have with our closest friend. If I’m totally honest, I know that there are things in my life that I’m not comfortable sharing, even with my closest friends. totally honest, each of us knows that there are things in our life that we’re not comfortable talking about; even with my closest friends.
This is where God comes into the picture. He is always there for me and wants to be my comforter during the good times as well as the bad!
So, how do we hear from God? It will never happen, unless I make time for Him. It’s impossible for me to hear from God, when I’m trapped in the busyness of my day. God loves it when I break away from the routine and spend time with Him.
The good news is that we don’t need to go out into the wilderness to hear from God. Our wilderness might be the spare bedroom, garage or back porch. Basically, it’s any place I can go to be alone with Him. For some, it might be during our commute time in the car.
God wants us to be free from the distractions of our day, so we can clearly hear him speak!
In Psalm 23, we’re told that He makes me lie down in green pastures. Why? Because he wants to speak to us. He wants us ALL to slow down and make time for him. It says in scripture that He’ll use this time to refresh our soul.
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me.-Psalm 23:2-4
